“SAS Australia”: How Stephanie Rice Went From Swimming Champ to Social Scandal
She’s already a three-time Olympic gold medalist, but now, Stephanie Rice is ready for a new challenge as she joins the star recruits of “SAS Australia” 2023. Along with Anthony Mundine, Cassie Sainsbury and 11 other Aussie personalities, Stephanie is ready to attempt one of the world’s most gruelling special ops selection processes.
But if you aren’t familiar with the ex-golden girl of Australian swimming, here’s what you can expect from her on the upcoming season of “SAS Australia”.
Stephanie Rice on SAS Australia 2023
In a new preview of the show, Stephanie Rice opens up about the moment that her life hit a downward spiral.
“Winning three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics was the best thing that ever happened to me,” she begins. “Overnight, that completely shifted. That tweet in 2010 definitely changed my life.”
In the wake of her online faux pas, Stephanie lost out on her Jaguar Australia partnership, and in 2014, retired from swimming due to a shoulder injury. Now, Stephanie says she’s not going down with a “big, strong fight”.
What Did Stephanie Rice Tweet?
In 2010, Stephanie Rice posted a Tweet using a homophobic slur. Following Australia’s win over South Africa in a rugby union game, the then-22-year-old posted her thoughts on Twitter (now known as X).
“Suck on that f–gots. Probs the best game I’ve ever seen!!” she tweeted.
She then took to her blog saying, “I did not mean to cause offence and I apologise.”
Will her efforts on “SAS Australia” 2023 change the public’s view of her?
Find out in October when the show premieres on Channel 7 and 7plus. If you’re curious to see what “SAS” is all about, you can watch the previous season, right now on 7plus.
