From acne to sex drive, hormones play a massive role in the symptoms we experience during our cycle. Sometimes, trying to navigate your personal cycle month-to-month can feel isolating, especially when no one else in your circle shares in your pain.
So, when Frank Body collaborated with sexologist, Chantelle Otten, to open up the conversation about hormones, we were all ears.
“I got my period really late. When I was 19. I have anemia, so it was here, then it was gone for a few years, now it’s back,” said Chantelle Otten.
“I really suffer with my hormones. I have PMDD (Premenstrual dysphoric disorder) which means I will kill anyone who’s close to me 10 days before my period.”
She also shared her opinion on sex during menstruation, saying that it’s a big yes! Why?
“First and foremost, because it can be really hot if you embrace it in the best possible way. Second of all, because if you have sex you’re releasing endorphins. And they are going to make you feel good. And feel closer to your partner.”
We suggest throwing down a towel to save your bedsheets an unexpected round in the wash.
Otten also got candid about sudden acne breakouts during your period. According to Frank Body, the hormones released pre-period increase your sebum production leading to pimples and acne.
To combat this, they suggest using products like the Clearing Face Wash ($16) which includes Salicyclic Acid and Niacinamide. These two ingredients work together to exfoliate away dead skin cells and balance oily skin to clear your pores.
BRB, stocking up on face wash.
