These Are Our Favourite Timeless Boho Bride Looks and Where to Shop Them

Whether it was Cindy Crawford‘s wedding in 1998 to Rande Gerber, where she wore a simple white slip dress on the beach with perfect tousled beach hair and bare feet, or Kate Moss‘s iconic John Galliano wedding dress, inspired by his classic ’30s style, but with an element of bohemian comfort… sometimes simple is best.

Simple doesn’t mean it isn’t meticulously planned, but rather more effortless, with comfort at the forefront. Of course, it’s important to look like a knockout on your wedding day, but you also want to be able to drink and eat and not worry about the dreaded bloat, right?

For as long as I can remember and even before that, boho-style wedding dresses and weddings have been in style. The bride wears her hair out, or maybe in a loose bun or braid, and her dress isn’t structured and tight, but rather flowy and soft.

Boho weddings usually take place somewhere enclosed by nature, such as in the middle of a pine forest, on a secluded beach or a restored barn. There are lots of native-looking flowers and shrubbery orchestrated in artistic ways, definitely a large amount fairy lights somewhere and it’s got a relaxed formality to it all.

We’ve all seen breathtaking dream weddings happen in this setting. With so many bridal trends happening all the time, the boho style is perhaps the only one that remains completely timeless.

“For me, boho gowns will always be a popular style for brides, as they’re effortless, full of soul and originality,” says Megan Ziems, Founder and Creative Director of leading Australian bridal brand, Grace Loves Lace.

“While the boho aesthetic continues to evolve, one thing remains the same – boho brides want to be comfortable in their dress because they’re likely going to be hiking up a mountain for the ceremony or dancing the night away barefoot!” she tells POPSUGAR Australia.

So, what does a comfortable, boho-style wedding dress entail? According to Megan, one of the main ingredients is lace.

“Lace is timeless, effortless and luxurious.  Lace is a classic fabrication that will stand the test of time and is my go-to recommendation for brides wanting a wedding dress that reflects her authenticity and is truly special.”

Lace truly is timeless. Not only does it offer comfort and a more relaxed style, depending on the design, but it can also be dressed up or dressed down. In more recent weddings, like Lily Collins’ marriage to Charlie McDowell — where we fell in love with her gorgeous Audrey Hepburn-style lace wedding gown — we can see that lace is just as appreciated as ever.

And in a new age of fashion, lace is being made more sustainably which is good for the environment as well as the quality of the garment.

“The stretch laces we hand select – just like all the fabrics here at GRACE – are of the highest quality, are sustainably and ethically sourced and are truly unique. Our exclusive laces allow brides to move, laugh and dance; freely, working with the body, not against it,” says Megan.

“Our gowns cater to the relaxed, laid-back bride as they are handmade with lightweight fabrics with no restrictive elements like zips, boning or heavy materials. Comfort is truly key with GRACE gowns and that, I believe, will never go out of fashion.”
