I have this distinct memory of wearing flared jeans to my eight birthday party and being super upset that the hems would be ruined because I couldn’t avoid them getting wet. They were my favourite hot-pink-and-orange-pinstriped jeans (LOL), and ruining them just wasn’t an option.
Of course they were fine, but this totally inevitable consequence of wearing super flared or baggy wide leg pants, is going to become a common topic of conversation once more; because the wide leg is back, baby.
All throughout Afterpay Australia Fashion Week 2022, we were seeing baggy wide leg and flared pants, both on and off the runway. And we’re not just talking a subtle flare, but circa Hilary Duff at the 2003 Teen Choice Awards style, pointy-toed stilettos and all.

As far as fashion callbacks though, this one is super chic. Although back in the early Y2K years it had a bit more of a tacky tween vibe, this modern, revised trend is more minimal and edgy with execution, therefore exuding effortless style rather than 13 Going on 30 vibes.
