As lovers of cute clothes and the environment, being young fashionistas right now can feel morally challenging. How do we buy sustainably without breaking the bank, while also supporting small businesses that are making big moves towards slow fashion?
Look, we can’t do it all. But we can continue to uncover local sustainable fashion brands that are affordable, and share them with you.
Australian brand, First Colours have just launched their second collection, made entirely from recycled materials. A 7-piece collection that focuses on traditional silhouettes and unconventional materials challenges preconceived notions of sustainable fashion. Along with this, the brand continues its sustainability efforts with the launch of rentable pieces.
Dreamt up in 2020, First Colours was born out of the need for more sustainable fashion for people who “don’t fit the traditional fashion mould”. They nail size inclusivity, offering sizes 6-18 in all designs, plus a range of silhouettes to suit different body types and style versatility.
“We hope that our customers will be inspired by our use of unconventional materials, bold colour choices, and our rental option through RNTR,” said co-founder, Emily Savage.
“While it would be impossible for us to solve all the issues surrounding sustainability in the fashion industry, First Colours hopes to contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way and create products that are accessible for people from all backgrounds while not causing damage to the earth.”
Below, we’ve picked some of our favourite pieces from the collection for you to add to cart, so you can help support the local sustainable fashion industry.
