You’d think that activewear for curves wouldn’t be super hard to find, given that workout clothes are often stretchy and soft, but the reality is that it can be a real struggle.
In my experience, as a curvy babe who likes to work out (and hang out) in activewear, a comfy pair of leggings and/or shorts has been particularly tricky to source. After trying a few brands, I noticed that some were too tight; restricting movement, and others were too loose; lacking in support.
But after a few years of shopping around, I’ve found a few brands that work for me. Below, I’ve rounded up 12 of the best leggings for curvy bodies that are on the market right now.
Gia 6" Bike Shorts
For a pop of colour, opt for these bike shorts by Australian brand Salt and Ripple. They go up ’til size XL and feature a triangle panel and no front seam which eliminates the camel toe. They also have a hidden waistband pocket, so you can keep your keys with you at all times.
Women's UA RUSH SmartForm Ankle Leggings
Under Armour’s Women’s UA RUSH SmartForm Ankle Leggings (now $96, was $120) has material that wicks sweat and dries fast, as well as seam placement that eliminates pressure points and chafing. Its high-rise waistband forms to your shape and moves with you and, helpfully, it has pockets where you can keep your keys or ID if you go for a run. The leggings go from XS to XXL.
Be Active All Day Tights (Black)
No joke, these are the best leggings I’ve ever owned.
The Bondi Active Be Active All Day Tights in Black ($90) only have limited sizing (up to a size L), but let me tell you — the sizing in generous and the tights are stretchy AF.
The V-shaped waistband and four-way stretch sees me LIVING in these leggings on the daily, whether around the house or to a pilates class. They look hot, trust me.
Classic V Leggings in Black
These Classic V Leggings in Black ($79.95) from Australian brand, Bambine Body, are really flattering. The V-line waist accentuates your curves by going down in the middle, cinching the waist and hugging the hips.
Essential Easy Leggings in Black
These Essential Easy Leggings in Black ($79.95) are a great basic. Being super high-waisted, they’ll make you feel sculpted and supported while you do your workout.
Infinity Bike Shorts
If you love activewear with funky colours and jazzy patterns, Moana Smile Club has got the goods. I’m particularly obsessed with the Infinity Bike Short ($90) and all its rainbow goodness (mostly because I can walk around looking like a rainbow paddle pop).
These shorts range from XS to 3XL. And good news! Most of the Moana Smile Club collection is squat-proof and offers some UV protection (though, it goes without saying, you should still apply SPF).
Love wearing matching sets? You can grab the Busy Bee 2.0 Sports Bra ($89) to complete the look.
Sweetheart V2 Highwaisted Leggings
These Sweetheart V2 Highwaisted Leggings ($57.99) range from an XS – XXL.
With its side pockets, tummy control high waistband, high quality and squat proof material, the collection has been a cult favourite within the TwoTags community. Shop here.
TwoTags also have incredible sports bras, just FYI. This new Breathe Sports Bra ($59.99), as part of their latest capsule collection. Made from their signature comfy af SKINLUX fabric, they go up to size XXL. You can shop here.
High-Waist Full Length Tights 2.0
For Pilates, yoga and active weekend wear, look no further than these Boody High-Waist Full Length Tights 2.0 (on sale $29.95).
They feature a wide waistband, curved panel shaping at the back and are made with organically-grown bamboo.
Active Truth Training Pocket 7/8 Length Tight
Not only are these Active Truth Training Pocket 7/8 Length Tight ($65.99) are comfy, but they’re super size inclusive. Active Truth creates styles for pregnant babes, as well as going up to a size 3XL. They also come in tall and short styles to cater for all bodies.
Bamboo Body Soft Bamboo Leggings
From XXS to 3XL, Bamboo Body’s Soft Bamboo Leggings ($59.95) are not only super comfortable and soft, but also cater to changing bodies and bodies with curves.
DK Active Signature Full Length Tight
The classic Signature Full Length Tight ($99.95) from DK Active is the OG great pair of leggings for curvy babes — I have a pair of these myself and they’re epic! They’re tight enough to make you feel secure but not too tight that it hurts every time you bend… if you know, you know.
B Free Intimate Apparel Ultra Soft Brushed Thermal Leggings
Although these Ultra Soft Brushed Thermal Leggings ($54.99) only go up to an XXL, they’re generous in sizing, and super soft and malleable to your booty shape. They’re the perfect leggings to wear underneath trackies to stay warm in winter, or even to do a soft workout in. The ideal winter yoga pant, TBH.
Tommy Jeans Curve Tape Logo Leggings
Surprisingly, these Tommy Jeans Curve Tape Logo Leggings ($129) are super comfortable for curves, and have that added element of style you often don’t find within curve activewear. These could work for a casual brunch look, with some platform runners or slides (like pictured), as well as the bottom half of a cute AF gym outfit. Love.
Nimble Activewear In Motion Leggings
Nimble Activewear, co-founded by two best friends who wanted to create activewear fit to wear outside of the gym — and they succeeded. These Nimble Activewear In Motion Leggings ($99) are a classic example of their basic styles, in a unique colourway and suitable for any body type.
