When it comes to fashion, there have historically been four main cities regarded as the best of the best on the world stage: New York, London, Paris and Milan. From heritage brands to emerging talent, the industry has always looked to these creative hubs in order to see what’s new and what’s next. However, in recent years, the reliance on the four fashion capitals has begun to shift, making room for designers in other cities to earn a place in the spotlight. Enter, Australian fashion talent

While Aussie brands have always been beloved on home soil, our designers are finally starting to garner the recognition they deserve on a more global scale. Need some proof? Just last week, British supermodel Adwoa Aboah chose to wear Australian label Christopher Esber while attending the famed Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty. Dressed in a silver chainmail gown, looking every bit the ethereal angel that she is, Aboah offered a hand in putting Aussie design talent centre stage (and exactly where it deserves to be, in our humble opinion).

However, Christopher Esber is not the only Australian designer that is gaining traction globally. Sydney-based label Aje, has also become a favourite amongst influencers in the UK, France and beyond. While Bec + Bridge has been sported by starlets including Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski. Dion Lee’s signature corsetry has captured the attention of Megan Fox and Gigi Hadid, while Zimmermann continues to hold its title as the floral dress designer of choice amongst A-listers including Beyonce, Katie Holmes and more.

It’s clear, Australian designers are certainly making a splash worldwide and we couldn’t be happier about it. Keep scrolling for 10 fashion labels that make us proud to be Australian.

The Iconic

Christopher Esber

A favourite amongst industry insiders, Christopher Esber is known for its statement silhouettes and unique use of cut-outs. The designer founded his eponymous label in 2010 and has since become one of Australia’s buzziest fashion industry exports. This ruched disconnect dress ($640) is just one such example of Esber’s unique designs.

The Iconic

Bec + Bridge

Known for its fashion-forward yet wearable silhouettes, Bec + Bridge is often the cool girl’s designer of choice when it comes to wedding guest attire. Case in point: Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid recently sported the brand as bridesmaids in their best friend’s nuptials. We love the subtle cut-out detailing on this Livania midi dress ($144).

Aje

Aje

Statement dresses are the name of the game at Aje. Between the puff sleeves, voluminous silhouettes and delicate details, this brand represents femininity at its finest and the global fashion industry is certainly taking notice. This Fallingwater Cut Out dress ($595) epitomises everything we love about the brand.
