If you’re a fan of Netflix’s “You,” you’re in good company. Cardi B has been very vocal on social media about her love of the hit show during its first three seasons, sparking petitions and social media campaigns calling for her to guest star in season four. And much to fans delight, their hopes have been answered . . . sort of.
In episode one of the new season, Joe Golberg (who is now using the name Professor Jonathan Moore) is attempting to start a new life in London. It will come as no surprise to anyone that his good intentions don’t seem to last long. After meeting a group of rich London socialites through his new job as a university professor, he attends the private members club, Sundry House. A night drinking leads to him blacking out and waking up to a dead body on his dining room table – and he is being framed for the murder. As he disposes of the body, Cardi B’s “I Like It” is the track of choice to accompany him chopping up the body, naturally. While Cardi B is yet to directly comment on her inclusion, she did update her Twitter profile with a photo of Joe, proving she really is a “You” stan.
If you need a reminder about where this Cardi B-Joe love-in started, let us fill you in. At the end of season three, Cardi B was involved in an exchange with Penn Badgley, who plays Joe, that delighted the internet. Cardi B came across a resurfaced clip of Badgley praising her “authentic relationship with social media” in a previous interview. She proceeded to freak out at the fact that Badgley even knew who she was (erm, hello?) and days later, the two stars swapped Twitter profile photos. “This is a thing that we have now, me and Cardi,” Badgley told Jimmy Kimmel during an appearance on his show in October 2021.
Netflix also stoked the rumors, by adding to its official Twitter bio, “Petition to get Cardi B to guest star in Season 4 of You!” And it seems Cardi B already had the plot ready to go. She tweeted a screenshot of the bio and replied, “So it’s episode 1 and I’m at Paris Fashion week shutting it down! I turn around and there stands YOU.”
While she doesn’t physically appear in part one of “You,” we are eagerly awaiting the second part of season four, premiering on March 10. Could Netflix have been teeing up a surprise cameo? We won’t accept anything less.
