Those growing up in the internet age may not have been alive when Bob Ross’s “The Joy of Painting” aired on PBS from 1983 to 1994, but they’re likely still familiar with his face, his soft voice, his painting, and – most notably – his perm. So fans will definitely clock the inspiration behind Owen Wilson‘s new film “Paint” instantly when they watch the trailer, which was released on Feb. 10.
The comedy follows Wilson’s character, Carl Nargle, Vermont’s famed public-television painter who thinks he has it all until a younger, better artist steps into the spotlight, causing him to question everything. The first teaser features Wilson delivering Bob Ross-esque, soft-spoken platitudes to his viewers intercut with Nargle’s hilarious exploits as a celebrity (like meeting up with his fangirls).
