Married At First Sight is set to premiere at the end of January and we’re not sure what this says about us, but we can’t wait for the drama, arguments and all-round toxic behaviour to take place on screen. On Monday (Jan. 17), Channel 9 announced the official cast list, featuring 16 brides and grooms, and one of them may actually seem a little familiar.
While not many people find love through MAFS, they do find fame, but it seems one particular contestant is already quite well known. Selina — who is tipped as the “breakout star” of the upcoming season — has already appeared on another show. You may remember her from Channel 7’s dating series The Proposal, which aired back in 2019.
While it didn’t come back for another season, The Proposal was similar to MAFS, with two single people being paired together in the hopes of finding everlasting love.
Obviously, things didn’t work out between Selina and her suitor Aaron Shaw, even after he “proposed” to her on TV. Aaron went on to compete on Love Island Australia the same year.
After the episode finished airing, Selina shared a YouTube video explaining what had happened once the cameras stopped rolling.
“After the cameras and the lights and the glitz and glam was gone, the next day it was Aaron and I,” Selina said in the video. “We really got to know each other on a whole other level and we both just instantly knew that it was a friendship connection and that was all it was.”
The 32-year-old hairdresser is now taking another chance at finding “the one” by putting her trust in the MAFS experts.
Selina says she struggles to form a connection with the men she dates, and that they often see her as a “novelty” rather than a “smart woman with ambition.”
