I’m a Celeb Contestant Davina Rankin Spills the Tea About Her Time on Married At First Sight
You may know her as the villain of Married At First Sight Australia, and now, Davina Rankin has taken on another task — she’s made her way into the jungle on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!
In true I’m a Celeb fashion, the contestants tend to spill the beans and Davina definitely delivered. Speaking about her time on the controversial reality show, she candidly revealed what it was like to be cast as “the villain”.
Davina was heavily scrutinised after allegedly cheating on her groom Ryan Gallagher with another contestant on the show, Dean Wells.
“I just had, like, ‘a secret affair’, but it wasn’t an affair,” she told AFL legend, Beau Ryan. “I was married to Ryan [Gallagher] … Ryan and I didn’t like each other, he was sleeping on the couch the whole time.
“It was annoying for me that whenever he had his voxies, or his interviews, he would be like ‘yeah, I really like her …’ and he’d like talk about me as if he really adored me… I was speaking too much, I was too open and honest, and in my head, I was like ‘well, I’m just being myself. I don’t like this guy’, but then I was the villain.”
She went on to divulge more information about her fling with her on-screen flame, saying she and Dean never actually slept together.
“I was like ‘we never even kissed!’ How can I have had an affair with someone I’ve never spent time with?”
After the edit came out, Davina struggled to hold it together, saying she didn’t leave the house for three months.
“My parents were so devastated for me, and everyone, because I had all my friends and family at the wedding too. So, they say how it all went down, and how he [Ryan] was, and then when they watched the wedding on TV, they were like, ‘woah’.
“There was so much stuff that went down at the wedding that made him look bad, but none of it got aired, it was just me and my b*tchy bridesmaids,” she said.
The TV personality later took to her own Instagram after the episode had aired to address her comments about MAFS, saying looking back at that period of her life makes her feel “anxious”.
“It was definitely a situation I wish I could have handled better, looking back, I could think of a million different things that could have been done better! It was definitely a challenging time to try and navigate through. But it’s made me who I am today…
“I am strong, I am resilient, I have grown tremendously as a person, and I’m so excited to show Australia ME.”
