Did You Hear? … Britney’s Free and R. Kelly is Locked Up, Here the Week’s Top 5 Stories
Welcome to Did You Hear…? Where we recap the top five pieces of news from the past week in pop culture so you’re always up to speed.
This week, two of the biggest legal cases which had embroiled the entertainment world announced verdicts. R. Kelly was pronounced guilty and Britney Spears’ dad, Jamie was removed from her conservatorship.
James Bond flick No Time to Die also had its premiere in London after a very long time coming, and Kate Middleton managed to steal the show in a stunning, bedazzled gown.
Here’s what you may have missed.
Britney Spears is Free
In what has seemed like a long time coming, a judge suspended Britney Spears‘ father from the conservatorship that has had a chokehold on the singer’s life for 13 years.
On Thursday, Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled to remove Jamie Spears as conservator immediately, after Britney’s impassioned testimonies. Instead, she is now able to select a temporary replacement to oversee her finances.
“Britney deserves to wake up tomorrow without her father as her conservator,” Rosengart said.
CPA John Zabel will replace Britney’s father as conservator of her estate temporarily, controlling her financial decisions until a plan is put into place.

R. Kelly is Found Guilty
After decades of subjecting girls, boys and women to sexual abuse, R. Kelly was finally found guilty on Monday. The charges involved six female victims, including the late singer Aaliyah, who married R. Kelly when she was 15 years old in ’90s.
The trial, which went on for six-weeks, saw R. Kelly deny all allegations against him and pleaded not guilty to all charges including human trafficking, racketeering, child pornography, kidnapping and forced labour.
The trial proved that not only did the disgraced singer have a history of predatory behaviour, but he surrounded himself with people who enabled his abuse.
“The musician turned predator allegedly used his stardom to coax some victims into nefarious sex acts while certain members of his enterprise calculatingly facilitated the aberrant conduct,” said special agent Angel Melendez following R. Kelly’s 2019 indictment.

Kate Middleton Stuns at James Bond Premiere
Kate Middleton rarely steps a foot out of line, and her appearance at the recent premiere of James Bond No Time To Die proved exactly that.
As soon as she stepped onto the red carpet, it was game over for everyone else, because the future Queen of England stole the show. Her golden gown by Jenny Packham glistened underneath the lights and featured an elaborate cape that swept the floor behind her as she walked.
Perfectly cinched in at the waist and covered in golden beads all over, the Duchess of Cambridge resembled a Bond girl.
It’s no surprise her look dominated the headlines as soon as she was photographed, but what many may not be aware of, is her late mother-in-law did it first. While attending a James Bond premiere in 1985 of A View to a Kill, Princess Diana wore a similar silhouette, no doubt inspiring Kate when it came to her own wardrobe choice.

Kyle Sandilands Surprised Everyone by Appearing on The Masked Singer
On Sunday night, The Masked Singer gave viewers not one, but two huge reveals. Not only was international celeb, Macy Gray hiding underneath the mask of Atlantis, but Australia’s very own shock jock Kyle Sandilands surprised the panellists by performing in a Paw Patrol costume.
You would think that his longtime radio wife and judge on The Masked Singer, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson would immediately recognise his distinct voice, but surprisingly, not one person was able to guess that it was Kyle hiding behind the mask.
After the reveal, it was clear as day Jackie was embarrassed, but in her defence, no one expected Kyle to take part in the entertainment show.
POPSUGAR Australia had the chance to speak to the man himself and find out his motivation behind appearing on the show, and what he was thinking while it all went down.
