Hailey Bieber opened up about the recent state of her mental health on Instagram. After initially sharing a lighthearted video on April 19 describing how her “mental state feels,” the Rhode beauty founder got real about experiencing some of her most difficult moments. Bieber’s posts were likely referencing the public’s increased interest in her personal life this year and subsequent online scrutiny.
“Since 2023 started I have had some of the saddest, hardest moments I’ve ever had in my adult life.”
“I like to make jokes about how I feel because sometimes it’s easier than admitting I’m having a hard time,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “But truthfully since 2023 started I have had some of the saddest, hardest moments I’ve ever had in my adult life and my mind and emotions have been fragile to say the least. And I know so many other people feel the way I feel, so just know you’re not alone.”
She continued with a positive note: “That being said, let’s keep being there for one another. Let’s be there for loved ones and friends and family and strangers. Let’s just be there for people.. let’s keep showing up for each other even when it’s hard. We’re better together.”
While she didn’t specifically reference her hardships, Bieber has recently been the subject of intense online hate and vitriol following her alleged feud with Selena Gomez. After a confusing back-and-forth on TikTok between Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Justine Skye, in late March, Gomez spoke out against the hatred directed at Bieber.
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Gomez said on Instagram at the time. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying.” Shortly after, Bieber thanked Gomez for addressing the bullying. She wrote, “The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this which is extremely hard.”
Bieber has been candid about dealing with mental health challenges in the past. During an interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in September 2022, she shared her experience with low moments and seeking an intensive therapy program, where she learned to work through grapple with her dark inner monologue.
