Season 8 of I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! has made an explosive return, but while 10 celebrities have entered the so-called jungle, one of them isn’t a celebrity at all. David Subritzky, otherwise known as “The David” entered the competition, going head to head with big names such as Poh Ling Yeow, Maria Thattil and Beau Ryan. But although he walked out of the helicopter looking nothing short of a star, the truth is, he’s actually an ordinary guy.
With his cracking wit and infectious personality, David is on the show to trick the other contestants into thinking he’s famous. Of course, there is a catch. The only person who knows the truth behind David is Poh, who is assigned the job of convincing others that the average Joe is actually a pretty big deal.
“The David” is a super-influencer, with a following of 3.9 million, he is using his platform to promote his shoe brand called 8-Inch Daves.
But Who Is the Real David?
While he considers himself to be “just a regular guy from the Goldie”, David is quite impressive in his own right. Growing up in the UK, David moved to the Gold Coast with his family. He left school at the age of 16 to work at Donut King, but he didn’t think it was his true calling.
Speaking to Channel 10, Dave claimed his bosses said: “Dave, you’re good with the people, just not the donuts.”
He then decided to go on a gap year to Ibiza and pursued many different careers during his lifetime including retail, publicity, a night club host, an event emcee, and even an art seller in Queenstown where he says he “made a lot of s**t up!”.
His sister, Layla Subritzky, took a crack at Australian Big Brother in 2012 and came in runner-up. Currently, besides being on I’m a Celeb, David is in a stable relationship with his partner Stephen James, an Australian-Armenian bodybuilder.
We can’t wait to see what he gets up to next.
