Halloween might be well and truly over, but we’ve only just been treated to Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal‘s epic costume and, to be honest, it needs to be seen. The two actors, who starred together in “Normal People”, cemented their BFF status with Edgar-Jones dressing as Phoebe Waller-Bridge in “Fleabag” and Mescal as the Hot Priest, the love interest from the hit BBC show.
On 15 Nov. Edgar-Jones posted the snap on her Instagram stories with the caption “Oh btw Paul and I did this for Halloween @bbcfleabag”. Firstly, we love that the pair spent the occasion together and are real-life friends. Secondly, can we talk about the hilariousness of this costume? Edgar-Jones wore a black jumpsuit with a cutout at the chest, red lipstick, and her new layered bob tousled into waves in an outfit that was the perfect copy of the look worn by Waller-Bridge in the TV show. Eagle-eyed fans on Twitter have even noticed that Mescal’s rumoured fiancée Phoebe Bridgers wore a very similar jumpsuit on the cover of Under the Radar magazine in 2020. We really hope she lent it to Edgar-Jones for the evening in a cute crossover.
Mescal joined his former costar and opted for a black shirt with a clerical collar to highlight that he was dressed as the Hot Priest, played by fellow Irish actor Andrew Scott on the show. “Fleabag” consisted of two series, airing in 2016 and 2019, and followed Waller-Bridge as the titular character trying to navigate life in London, and was critically acclaimed as one of the best TV shows in recent years. Edgar-Jones and Mescal clearly have great taste.
While Edgar-Jones has most recently starred as the lead in “Where the Crawdads Sing”, and Mescal takes the lead in new film “Aftersun”, we love that the pair have remained friends since they were catapulted into stardom following “Normal People”. While Mescal revealed to British GQ that the on-screen nudity from the Sally Rooney adaptation has caused some difficult interactions with fans since, they both have the show to thank for their career breakthrough and for the friendship they’ve developed. Scroll ahead to see just how accurate their Halloween costume was.
