Australian Idol Is Back After 14 Years — These Are the New Judges

For the first time since 2009, Australian Idol is returning to our screens.

Bringing us iconic Australian musicians like Guy Sebastian, Anthony Callea, Casey Donovan, Courtney Act, Matty Corby, Jessica Mauboy and Ricki-Lee, Australian Idol is the OG talent-finding reality show that first graced our screens way back in 2003.

International music icons Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert also launched their brilliant careers on the Idol stage.

IDK about you, but I still have Guy Sebastian’s When Doves Cry cover stuck in my head from 2003, as well as Shannon Noll’s version of What About Me (that was actually used in one of my primary school productions). Idol has a way of creating memorable moments through song, and it’s super exciting that they’re set to do it all over again in 2023.

Who Are the 2023 Australian Idol Judges?

With a new season / version of Australian Idol, comes a new panel of judges.

Helping unearth the next idol to take Australia by storm will be celebrated American Idol judge, musician, singer, composer and multiple Grammy award-winning Harry Connick Jr; powerhouse Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor; unfiltered and unapologetic top-rating broadcaster Kyle Sandilands; and beloved eight-time ARIA Award-winning singer-songwriter Amy Shark.

Idol is an iconic show,” said Meghan Trainor in a press statement. “I grew up watching it and I am honoured to be involved. I can’t wait to sit front row and meet new talent.”

“We actually found someone to idolise in the music industry in Australia every year with Idol,” says Kyle Sandilands — and he’s not wrong.

“I’m excited about the auditions,” said Amy Shark. “It’s going to be pretty special to find that diamond in the rough and then see how they progress through the show. Idol has changed the lives of so many artists in the past, so I’m excited to be part of that.”

Additionally, Australian Idol will be hosted by multi-platinum selling, ARIA Award-nominated singer-songwriter Ricki-Lee — who was discovered on Australian Idol in 2004 — and internationally renowned entertainment presenter and former E!host Scott Tweedie.
