The Return of the Mini Skirt
The return of the mini skirt is upon us, and honestly? We’re not mad about it.
Although you might have thought that the Y2K era was behind us, we’re now confident that it’s back with a vengeance. With the return of platform sandals, butterfly clips and the controversial low rise, it was only a matter of time before mini skirts made a comeback.
At Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2022, we’ve been seeing mini skirts everywhere – from the runway shows of different designers, to some standout street-style looks. Here are some of our faves.
This colourful number (above) graced the Oroton Resort 23 runway, bringing life to all of our Y2K fantasies with a refined silk mini skirt, complete with a poppy sign printed fabric.
Then, on the Aaizel Resort 23 runway, we saw a more structured mini skirt, giving us chic school uniform vibes. This structured style is reminiscent of the recent Miu Miu range, working with pleating and a low rise waistband.
Beare Park offered up a more party-girl mini skirt, adding a little bit of sparkle to the runway and giving us the full mini mini skirt fantasy, Xtina style.
We’re obsessed with this bubble-shaped mini skirt that Nat Gunn rocked tot he Erik Vyon Resort 23 show, which is super reminiscent Y2K “it girl” party dresses… don’t say you didn’t have one.
