The Funniest Memes About the Breath of the Wild 2 Delay
Nintendo has announced that Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has been delayed to 2023. No one’s particularly shocked by the news, considering games this big tend to get pushed back multiple times during development, and — thankfully — in fact, people are overall pretty happy about the news. “I just hope for the best game possible in the end, and that’s most likely what we’ll be getting after an additional bit of patience,” wrote one fan on Twitter.
Series producer Eiji Aonuma announced the delay in a video posted by Nintendo. “We previously announced that we were aiming for a 2022 release for this game. However, we have decided to extend our development time a bit and change the release to Spring 2023,” he said. “For those of you who have been looking forward to a release this year, we apologise.”
Aonuma went on to discuss some of the ways the sequel will be bigger than the original, like gameplay that takes place in the sky, new encounters and other new gameplay elements. “In order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a while longer.”
The video also included a precious few seconds of new footage from Breath of the Wild 2 that shows Link holding a broken Master Sword. Of course, fans are already speculating about what this might mean for the game, but we’ll have to wait until Nintendo release more information to find out. The story of BOTW 2 is still under wraps, but hopefully, we’ll learn more soon.
Fans have been processing the announcement the only way they know how — by making memes. From joking that now they’ll have more time to play Elden Ring and Kirby and the Forgotten Land to celebrating their love for Aonuma, the memes are excellent and make the BOTW 2 delay easier to deal with.
