Big Brother Australia has been around for yonks now, first airing in 2003. Now, 19 years later, Big Brother Royalty vs New Contenders is bringing back some of our favourites from the last few years, all while introducing a crop of newbies.
If you’re reading this, you were either too young to watch Big Brother when it first premiered, or you’ve grown up consuming the show. Whatever side you sit on, the term “OG”, which is thrown around quite a bit throughout the series, is leaving some viewers scratching their heads.
OG is a colloquial term and can mean one of two things. These days, the abbreviation is a quicker way of saying “original”, but it used to mean “Original Gangster”. According to Dictionary.com, the term OG was first used in the ‘70s by the LA-based gang, Original Gangster Crips. The term “Original Gangster” originated from the gang’s name, who described themselves as “the first” of their kind.
However, the phrase became mainstream in 1991, when rapper Ice T released his fourth album, O.G. Original Gangster.

The Big Brother Royalty this year are Regina “Reggie” Bird, Trevor Butler, Tim Dormer, Tully Smyth, Anthony Drew, Farmer Dave Graham, Estelle Landy and Layla Subritzky.
