Every heard of ‘Dating Sunday’? Neither had we, but it’s a thing.
Referring to the first Sunday of the year (which falls on January 8, this year), Dating Sunday is the day when there is the most activity on dating apps there will be all year. It’s when new singles sign up and when those previously on apps return.
The idea is people following the “new year, new me” mentality are most likely to put their resolutions into action this Sunday. In past year, dating apps have experienced a massive surge in users and activity on Dating Sunday.
Most of Australia’s biggest dating apps, including Bumble, Tinder, Hinge and Grindr, all reported a surge during last year’s Dating Sunday. According to Bumble, there was an increase of 13.8 per cent in matches, and the number of messages sent was 14 per cent above the usual daily average.
