While Thanksgiving isn’t really a celebrated holiday in Australia, there’s one occasion that falls right after that we’re all too happy to get behind: the Black Friday sales. This year, we’re doing things a bit differently and instead of throwing caution (and our bank balances) to the wind and spending up big on things that we, quite honestly, do not need, we’re buying the things we’ve been coveting for a while or that we really need.
The sales are kicking off properly today (though some did start early) and will run through to Cyber Monday. So, to get a jump on the sales inspiration and refocus on the items that will add genuine value to our lives, I asked around the office to find out exactly what the POPSUGAR Australia team is snapping up in the sales this year.
Dick Smith
Lyndsey, Entertainment Editor: Stand Up Paddle Board
“My partner and I are buying stand up paddle boards ($289, usually $599). We’ve wanted them for ages — we are both total water babies who love being active — and I guess the sales would be a good time to get them! We love the idea of taking Memphis (our groodle puppy) out on the board and just having lazy summer days exploring on them.”
Net-a-Porter
Amanda, Publisher: Adidas Originals Suede Sneakers
“I never buy shoes full price — I don’t follow trends so I don’t care that they aren’t ‘new season’. I just buy what I like, that happens to still be around in my size. I’ve had these Adidas Originals suede sneakers ($178, usually $211) on my wish list for a while so I’m finally going to bite the bullet.”
Noa Home
Katie, Digital Partnerships Manager: A New Couch
“My current couch has seen way too much use over the past two years in lockdown, so I now have a love/hate relationship with it. Out with the old and in with the new! I’m eyeing off the Pacific XL sectional from Noa Home ($1,999, usually $2,699).”
Catbird
Ange, Commercial Content and Shopping Editor: Baby Cygnet Ring
“I am a huge lover of rings and I’ve been eyeing off the baby cygnet rings ($217) from Catbird since I adopted my fur-baby Billy a year ago. To celebrate the one year anniversary of having him in my life, I’m finally buying the cygnet ring for my pinkie finger, with a ‘B’ engraved on it. While I’m not sure what the discount will be yet (it doesn’t launch until 26 November, New York time), any discount will be welcomed.”
B.O.D by Finch
Valentina, Managing Editor: New Activewear
“I find B.O.D by Finch (Rachael Finch’s activewear label) to be good value, they fit really well, and are also made to last.” Valentina bought a few things, and her recommendations are the Signature Leggings ($36, usually $119), the Rise Tee ($21, usually $69), and the Luna Legging ($33, usually $109.00).
Bonds
Allie, Senior Account Manager: Stocking Up on Bonds Basics
“I’ll be topping up on some Bonds stuff because they have 40 per cent off and when they have these sales, I always like to stock up on the basics for the entire family.”
Kogan
Brian, Managing Director: Two-Person Inflatable Kayak
“My summer plans consist of beers with my son on Gunnamatta, in this inflatable kayak ($166, usually $399).”
