Michael Peña’s roles are pretty varied: he plays a DEA agent on Narcos: Mexico, but he’s also in The Lego Ninjago Movie, My Little Pony: The Movie, and even Ant-Man. The good news is that means he has plenty of work that his young son can watch! Some of Michael’s roles might be a bit mature for now, but the beauty of a varied résumé is that the whole family can enjoy Dad’s acting skills. And that also means Michael and his wife, Brie Shaffer, can bring their son along to movie premieres, which they’ve done! The whole family steps out for events together from time to time, but both Michael and Brie are very private, which means we don’t know a whole lot about them. Here’s what we do know about Michael’s son and the family dynamic, though.

Roman Joel Peña
Roman Peña was born in 2008. He is Michael’s only child with his wife, Brie. Michael and Brie are both pretty private people, so they don’t share much about their lives on social media, but we do know Michael got a tattoo for his son after he was born. He has a beautiful large chest piece with Roman’s name that you can get a peek at when Michael is shirtless! He also shared with ET in 2018 that having his son completely changed everything, obviously, but especially how he conducts himself on sets. He said in general, becoming a dad made him more cautious: “Like, even the way that I drive now is a little more cautious.”
On Narcos: Mexico in particular, he said being a dad really affected his role of DEA agent Kiki Camarena. The real Kiki was assassinated over his work trying to catch criminals, which is something Michael kept in the back of his mind while on the show. “You get the feeling of potential loss, like you don’t want your kids to grow up without a parent. So, you sort of take that into consideration whenever you’re close to danger or what not.”
