3 Reasons There's Hope For 2021, According to Astrology
Most of us can agree that 2020 has been a year of significant shifts. Life as we know it has fundamentally changed, and this can be really hard. The good news is that the astrology transits of 2021 offer an optimistic outlook. According to the cosmos, there’s a new chapter unfolding, and there’s a chance to be the change we want to see and build new ways of being . . . together.
As an astrologer, I look at the patterns, transits, and cycles of the planets. It’s not that these celestial bodies are doing anything to us, but they are currents of light flowing all around us. When we know which way the current is flowing, we can choose which way we want to swim. The astrological trends for 2021 are collaboration, creativity, and fresh beginnings. Here’s what it all means.

1. The Great Conjunction: Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius
A conjunction is a fancy way of saying two planets are coming together at the same point in the sky. In this case, we have Jupiter and Saturn. Astrologers call this the great conjunction because it’s a pretty big deal (the last time this aspect occurred in Aquarius was the early 1400s). As we enter this cycle of opportunities, innovation, and connection, it’s as if that coveted Age of Aquarius is starting.
There’s been hype around the Age of Aquarius for centuries. It’s a new age of humanity coming together. From an astrological outlook, 2021 is the beginning of many Aquarius-themed transits. Beginning with the great conjunction, Saturn will remain in this sign for nearly three years and Jupiter for one year. Then in 2023, Pluto will enter Aquarius, where it will stay for 20 years. Although there’s no proving it, given that there are so many planets moving through Aquarius, we can imagine that this new age is finally beginning.
We can look back at the last time these transits occurred to learn and improve moving forward, like reviewing an exam before retaking it. When we spend time reflecting, we build new outcomes instead of repeating history. Back in the early 1400s, which was the last time Saturn and Jupiter joined together in Aquarius, the Renaissance began. During this period of history, attitudes changed and what it meant to be human took on new meaning. Art emerged and the human experience became valuable. This period saw the end of the dark ages. It moved humanity out of a time of plagues and social class disparities.
Aquarius energy cares about the whole, and its focus is on the greater good. It’s the team player who gives all people a seat at the table, not just a privileged few. Beginning in 2021, we can expect an emphasis on inclusion, diversity, and the dismantling of oppressive systems; it’s a time of evening the playing field.
Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius Throughout History
The last time Saturn moved through Aquarius was from February 1991 to May 1993. This period saw the end of apartheid in South Africa, the Rodney King riots, and the first woman prime minister of Canada. Also during this time, the internet became available for commercial use and there were one million computers online.
The last time Jupiter was in Aquarius was from January 2009 to January 2010. That period saw Barack Obama inaugurated as the first Black president of the United States, and Bitcoin was created.
We can also reflect on our lives to see what themes emerged back then and what those periods taught us. That wisdom will be valuable for moving forward. Can we see connections between those periods of history and now? Are we open to diverse voices and demographics taking power and becoming leaders? Are we ready for new technology and innovation? Like the times before the Renaissance, we have been in some dark experiences. Could we be on the verge of a renaissance, which means rebirth in English? After 2020, whose ready for a restart?
2. Upcoming Eclipses
Eclipses bring times of change and alignment. They occur when the sun, the moon, and Earth line up, and in many ways, they deliver lessons for our planet. From May 2020 until January 2022, we will be having eclipses in Gemini and Sagittarius, which means the themes of these signs are coming to the forefront.
Sagittarius is about expansion, potential, and what’s possible, but things are only possible if we believe them, so this energy is connected to our beliefs. Sag wants us to see the glass half full – it wants us to dream and use our imaginations.
Gemini energy is about curiosity, humor, and having fun, but just because that’s the lesson doesn’t mean it is going to be easy. If we are willing to take the assignment, our homework is to change our beliefs, open our hearts, learn from each other, and have fun! An eclipse on Dec. 14, 2020, is teaching us this, big time. There will also be eclipses on May 26 and June 10, 2021, that call in these themes.
3. Venus and Mars Joining Forces
In 2020, both Venus and Mars retrograded. Instead of things flowing smoothly, it was a year of digging deep and retracing our steps. The planet of relationships (Venus) and the planet of action (Mars) will not retrograde in 2021, which means smoother sailing ahead.
Not only will Venus and Mars move forward, but they will also come together in Leo. The conjunction is occurring from the end of June 2021 through July 2021. This connection is like a reunion of feminine and masculine energy, which plays out in our internal and external worlds. It’s a time for harmonious relationships, creativity, and playtime.
There’s Hope For 2021
The astrology of 2021 brings a ton of potential. The Aquarian transits are teaching humanity the importance of sharing the stage and serving the greater good. There is a seat for everyone at this table, not just a few with the privileged VIP pass. The eclipses are expanding our horizons and reminding us that solutions come from learning. Lastly, this summer, Venus and Mars come together, giving a dose of open-hearted energy that urges us to own our passions and create a new chapter.
