Netflix has confirmed that production of season 3 of The Witcher has begun and shared a photo of Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra on set.
The photo shows them in costume as Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in a snowy field surrounded with trees.
Netflix also shared the official plot summary for the upcoming season: “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.
“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”
The Witcher season 3 will adapt the second book in the series, Time of Contempt. Season 1 adapted the Witcher short stories and season 2 adapted the first book, Blood of Elves, although both seasons made a few big changes from the books. It’s safe to assume that season 3 will do the same, including bringing back the Wild Hunt, who we saw at the end of last season and who are most known from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game.
Netflix hasn’t announced The Witcher season 3 release date yet, but The Witcher: Blood Origin will stream in 2022. The prequel series will star Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain. There’s also a new Witcher game in production, although we know that Geralt won’t be the main character. Instead, the new game is “kicking off a new saga” for the franchise.
We have to wait a bit longer for Henry Cavill to return in The Witcher season 3, but we can watch the surprisingly horny video he made of himself building a gaming PC. You’re welcome.
