Marvel doesn’t have a great track record with video games. The early attempts to cash in on the MCU included forgettable action-adventure adaptations of Iron Man and Captain America, and the two most recent games have fallen flatter than Tobey’s Spider-Man when he loses his powers mid-swing.
But that might be set to change because EA has announced it’s making a singleplayer action-adventure Iron Man game with Marvel Entertainment and Motive Studio.
The game will feature an all-new story that “taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channelling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man.”
Bill Rosemann, Vice President and Creative Director at Marvel Games says they want it to be “the ultimate Iron Man video game” and a “love letter to a legendary hero.”
Motive is behind Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars: Squadrons and the studio is currently making the Dead Space remake. While neither of those Star Wars games has done anything groundbreaking in the genre, there’s no denying that Motive is one of the best in terms of creating games with gorgeous, hyper-realistic graphics and deep, immersive sound design.
That’s literally all we know about the Iron Man game right now, but EA promises more updates as it gets further along in the development cycle.
Until then, we’ve got EA’s Behind The Sims Summit stream on October 18 to look forward to. It’s not Marvel-related, but it is about The Sims, which is equally exciting.
