You can’t go wrong with this nostalgic classic. Nintendo has kept it simple and true to form in the eighth installment of the iconic Mario Kart series. It’s pretty much a must-have game for the Switch and the perfect way to spend a few hours racing your ultra-competitive mates. There are enough unlockable items and tracks to keep you interested for years.
Universally agreed upon as one of the greatest games ever made. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (now $68.95, was $89.95) is an epic action/adventure that pretty much gives you the freedom to play it however you want. If you want to ignore the story and just run around the gigantic map collecting golden seeds from cute little leaf dudes, have at it. If you want to help villagers build their own little getaway, also cool. It’s endlessly playable and stunningly designed.
Released in May, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (now $69, was $89.95) is a sequel, but you don’t need to play the first one to enjoy it. Link has been given a whole range of new abilities to help you explore Hyrule, with a big focus on flying between islands in the sky and the vast caverns underground. It’s just as beginner friendly and completely allows you to take it at your own pace. Fair warning, you will lose weekends to it.

Cloudpunk is just so aesthetic and “Blade Runner” -esque. The soundtrack is so good and it’s easy to pick up for noobs like me.

I don’t play video games all that much, but my eight-year-old godson loves them and recently got Little Friends: Dogs & Cats ($59), which I will admit isn’t as good as the OG Nintendogs, but you still get the satisfaction of raising dogs, playing with them, bathing them, and feeding them. As far as animal games go, this is enough to satisfy my Y2K Nintendogs era. Now, if only they could bring back Tamagotchis.

I like how there’s no “end goal” in Animal Crossing New Horizons (now $62, was $79.95), so it feels like I’m mindlessly playing it. Building my house on my island gives me a taste of what it would feel like to own property, which will never happen in my real life because I live in Sydney.

I’m loving Game Builder Garage ($69). It’s a game that teaches you how to make video games and you can also play other games that people make. So it’s essentially a video game with infinite games inside of it. Great for beginners who want to learn the fundamentals in a slay way.

My friends and I are obsessed with Moving Out ($51.44), regardless of how many arguments it’s started. It’s a challenging game that’ll have you and your besties laughing, screaming and possibly crying (from joy or anger, I can’t predict which). You need to work together to individually to move items from a house into a moving truck in a very short time frame. The overall design is adorable and quirky with each character possessing a personality of its own.
