Health and fitness are incredibly important for The Bachelor’s Holly Kingston. The 27-year-old marketing manager spends a lot of her free time in the Bachie mansion working out with her “beautiful bestie Carlie“, as well as going for walks and listening to music.
Food also plays a big role in Holly’s life and she has relished the time she has been able to spend cooking while filming The Bachelor. “The outside world can get a bit hectic with work and catching up with friends and family and I don’t have time to cook a whole lot,” she told POPSUGAR Australia.
Due to the high number of vegetarians and vegans in this year’s Bachie mansion, Holly has found herself eating mostly plant-based meals but there are always three ingredients she adds to the communal shopping list and that’s canned tuna, chickpeas and frozen açaí.
We chatted to Holly about all things health and wellness and how she approaches healthy eating while living in the Bachie house.
POPSUGAR Australia: How does ordering groceries work in the mansion, so you ensure you’re getting the food you like?
Holly Kingston: For the most part, I like to stand back on the grocery order, the girls will put so many things on that list it ends up being multiple A4 pages long. The three things I try and put on every week are very random — tuna, chickpeas and frozen açaí.
I am obsessed with frying up some chickpeas with cumin and popping them on a tuna salad for lunch. So yummy. I have also gotten addicted to making epic acai bowls for brekky, with all the yummy toppings… including crunchy peanut butter of course.
PS: What do you typically eat in a day?
HK: Typically, I’m not a breakfast girl. I like to intermittent fast until about midday when I’m in the outside world, but I find I need to eat before big days of shooting so I’m changing things up in the mansion.
- Pre-brekky: Hot water with lemon, a glass of water with collagen and a strong latte.
- Breakfast: An açaí bowl packed with banana, spinach, frozen berries, oats, almond milk and vanilla protein. I top with chia seeds, hemp seeds, coconut flakes and peanut butter.
- Lunch: My go-to salad with tuna, cumin chickpeas, spinach, feta and whatever else I can find in the fridge or pantry.
- Dinner: Carlie and I are the leftover queens, we hate seeing food go to waste so we cook up whatever we can find! Go-to meals mainly include satay tofu stir-fries, veggie burgers and chickpea pasta with any of the leftover veggies we can source.
PS: Have you been doing much cooking while in the mansion?
HK: I have been cooking a lot in the mansion, particularly on days off, which is so nice because life in the outside world can get a bit hectic with work and catching up with friends and family and I don’t have time to cook a whole lot. We are also so lucky to have such a stocked fridge and jam-packed pantry so there’s no shortage of ingredients.
PS: Do you have any dietary requirements that you’ve had to navigate in the mansion?
HK: No, I’m boring… I love everything. There are a lot of vegetarians and vegans in the house so I have been eating a lot of vego food as that’s usually what’s in the fridge.
