Rihanna is known for her music and beauty prowess but you might not be as familiar with her clothing line, Savage x Fenty. Founded in 2018, the brand started as a lingerie line but now includes clothing including sleepwear and activewear.
Thanks to a recent TikTok video, the internet is currently going wild over a pair of lavender-coloured, butt-baring leggings — called the Soft Mesh Open-Back Crotchless Legging ($68.77) — from Savage x Fenty. When we say butt-baring, we mean it! A TikTok user by the name of @fathermarge questioned the design of the leggings, which includes a cut-out in the back of the garment, showing the top of one’s bottom.

The leggings have caused a ripple effect of confusion across social media, with one TikTok user writing “How did that get approved?”. Another quipped, “Can we normalise butt cleavage?”. It’s safe to say these babies are definitely not squat-proof! And, in a surprising turn of events, these purple-hued backless leggings aren’t the only butt-baring style available on the Savage x Fenty website.
A quick scroll shows another two styles that feature cut-out designs, with the Bohemian Paisley Open-Back Legging ($68.77), bottom left, going so far as to actually put one’s bottom on display, while the Soft Mesh Open-Back Crotchless Legging ($68.77) offers a little more coverage while still allowing one to show the top of their backside.
It’s fair to say that the Bohemian Paisley Open-Back Legging isn’t really safe for actual workouts and are more designed for the look rather than function. As for the original leggings that started this conversation, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with one person calling them the “sexiest sleep pants ever”.
Another reviewer by the name of Jennifer found these leggings to be super comfortable, writing: “It is pretty clear these aren’t the type of leggings you are going to wear to the grocery store, but as something sexy and different for around the house or to sleep in? These are unique, flattering, and really pretty! I love the back detail and even the crotchless design, you can wear panties under them or go commando and both are comfy options.”
