Storm Reid joined the fun at Milan Fashion Week, attending the Prada show at Fondazione Prada on Thursday, Sept. 22. Dressed in the Italian luxury label from head to toe, Reid bared some skin in a plunging silver chain-mail-style minidress covered in reflective mirrors. A pair of tall platform sandals and a black top-handle bag rounded out the look in style. Also in attendance, Hunter Schafer styled a black turtleneck top with a silky miniskirt, a long pink-and-white gingham shirt, and a tan trench coat. Meanwhile, Michaela Coel wore a sheer metallic overlay over a white logo tank dress and a boxy brown oversize leather blazer.
Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’s creative collaboration yielded yet another intriguing collection titled “Touch of Crude.” On a runway outfitted with brown carpeting, models walked to the beat of sci-fi music, their faces done in an eccentric way with long eyelashes that seemed to obscure their vision. The self-referential show opened on a somber gray tailoring ensemble, consisting of a long coat layered over a button-down shirt and skinny pants. The catwalk explored themes of business dressing and domestic living, borrowing elements from previous collections to present them in the ugly-chic fashion Prada excels at. For example, a series of dark and colorful dyes seemed to be dripping from a strapless column gown, a slip dress, and skirt sets as if the designers intentionally set out to give them an unfinished look. Similarly, a lineup of knit ensembles with raw edges and crinkled accessories expanded on that sentiment.
Elsewhere, Miuccia’s trendsetting sheer experiment from the fall 2022 collection reemerged, taking the shape of skirts, vintage-looking nightgowns, turtleneck sweaters, and coats. And Simons’s historical penchant for leather came full force in the sharp jacket ensembles, which nicely incorporated Prada’s heritage as well.
Leave it to Prada to set trends while constantly referencing its history. Ahead, view the front-row stars, and appreciate our favorite looks from the collection.
