If the 2023 Met Gala red carpet is anything to go by, it seems like mega platforms a la Spice Girls in the ‘90s are officially back. Kendall Jenner, Paris Hilton and Brazilian singer Anitta all wore the footwear style in black for the event, pairing it with mostly black outfits.
In Kendall’s case, she wore closed-toe mega-platform boots with a sequined Mac Jacobs leotard with arm holes that continued into two capes. New mum Paris Hilton made her Met Gala debut, also dressed in Marc Jacobs. The DJ and designer collaborated on a leather mermaid gown, crafted with a rhinestone bustier and gloved sleeves.
Finally, Anitta also opted for a Marc Jacobs outfit. She teamed her black platforms with a dramatic black gown and white opera gloves.
Florence Pugh made a strong case for the return of platform heels in March this year when she was snapped wearing Valentino’s towering platforms heading for a train trip out of Paris. She paired the heels with an oversized leather jacket, white tank top and baggy trousers.
Former Victoria’s Secret model Elsa Hock also was spotted in the trend in April this year. She wore Valentino heels with chunky see-through soles and sturdy straps.
