I live in activewear on the weekends, which makes sense given I usually spend it doing Pilates, running errands and catching up with friends on power walks. Because I wear so much activewear, not to mention often writing about it in my role as Lifestyle Editor of POPSUGAR Australia, I know it well. I have my preferred activewear brands, and I know how well-made pieces can look and feel.
Recently, one activewear brand caught my eye and since then, I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s an Australian label called Pinky and Kamal that not only does activewear, but leisurewear too. Its pieces are minimalist, though with modern fits and material. Think one-shoulder crops, crops with criss-cross backs and fine ribbed biker shorts. It’s also got flared yoga pants, long-sleeve wrap tops and crewnecks.
Upon closer inspection, I found out the brand’s pieces have been handmade and dyed in Bali, Indonesia, since it launched in 2013, and its latest collection NO.05 was created using recycled fibres from pre-consumed waste. Sustainable win!
“I started Pinky and Kamal – named after two of my Bangladeshi friends – because of the need I felt to bring women yoga ware that was not made out of 100% synthetic, shiny material, but to give them a more organic and comfortable experience on or off the mat,” says the brand’s founder Nat Carusi.
“My vision was to create clothing that was so damn comfortable that it would be the first thing you wanted to put on in the morning and the last thing you wanted to take off at night. The fabrics had to be sustainable and my practices would have to be planet-friendly.”
Ahead, I’m sharing some of what I think to be Pinky and Kamal’s best pieces.
