Let’s take a trip back to our sweet sixteenths, where mullet dresses were everything.
Giving the perfect hybrid of subtle sexiness with a short front hem a low back hem — mullet dresses were an absolute party wardrobe essential in the mid 2010s.
And now, in a shocking twist, they might be back.
On Friday March 31 , iconic curve supermodel and changemaker, Ashley Graham, wore a breathtaking Lanvin mullet dress to the 12th annual Women Making History Awards gala in Washington, D.C. as she was recognised for her impact on size diversity in the fashion industry, and spoke openly about the still-prevalent issue.
“I have been working as a model for over 20 years, and I still am fighting to this day for equality of size diversity on the runway on the covers of magazines, and film, and TV. And it’s never felt complete,” Graham told PEOPLE.
“I think there’s still a lot of work to do. And that’s why I tell younger women and women who are also fighting for what things that they believe is just to keep going. Keep fighting, keep striving for what it is that you want to change.”

On the night, Graham rocked a cape-style mullet dress from Lanvin, with pleated fabrication, a structured frill on the sleeve and hem, and a high-neck. Meshing two current fashion trends — capes and Y2K — together, Graham’s dress is another example of a style being revisited, in an undeniably more refined and elevated way.
She styled the piece with gold accessories — strappy shoes, a white bag with gold detailing, and chunky gold rings — giving us the full goddess colourway.
Something we keep seeing in fashion right now is a return of styles we were glad to be rid of — low-rise pants and skirts, denim maxis, headbands — but that have found a new sense of timelessness in their resurgence. With the endless evolution of fashion, technology and innovation, it’s truly remarkable the way trends are returning, better than ever.
That being said, we might need to revisit the mullet dress craze. Below, are four different styles of mullet dresses and skirts to shop.
