Lily Allen Turns the London Streets Into a Catwalk as She Enters Her High-Fashion Era
She burst onto the music scene in 2006 in an array of prom dresses and trainers, but Lily Allen‘s style has transformed over the years and she’s fast becoming one of the best-dressed celebrities this year. The mum-of-two is currently starring in “The Pillowman” in London’s West End and her post-show looks have caught the attention of fashion fans far and wide.
Cute Elie Saab co-ords, plunging Philsophy blazers, and sheer-panelled Alessandra Rich gowns have made up Allen’s wardrobe and so many of her looks have been added straight to our moodboards. Styled by Kyle De’Volle, Allen has ensured that every street really is a catwalk this summer and we are here for it.
Having recently revealed she’s 4 years sober, the 38-year-old’s career has been on an upward trajectory of late. Despite having had a tumultuous few years struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, the singer has married “Stranger Things” actor David Harbour and has been focussing on her acting career with a star turn in Sky’s “Dreamland” earlier this year, as well as making her theatre debut last year in “2:22 A Ghost Story”.
Now, she’s not only setting the entertainment world alight, but the fashion world, too. Allen has never been afraid to experiment with her look, most recently dyeing her signature black hair to a bleach blonde bob. She rocked a glittery co-ord at the pre-BAFTA party in Feb. and posted a plunging purple Versace bra on Instagram in March as Allen embarks on her most stylish, confident era yet. Read ahead to see some of Allen’s best looks this year.
Allen rocked a quirky black, collared crop top with high-waisted tailored trousers by Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini on 1 Aug. With her bob hair given a middle parting and kept sleek, the look was modern sophistication.
On 31 July, Allen chose a red strapless, crochet number by Magda Butrym. The open weave made for a slightly sheer effect, so she added high-waisted nude knickers underneath. Teamed with matching red Manolo Blahnik heels and jewellery by Messika, she looked super glam.
Proving the little black dress is a classic for a reason, Allen wore an off-the-shoulder dress by Vivienne Westwood on 25 July. Paired with a black choker with the iconic Westwood orb and matching bag, she finished the look with a red pop of lipstick.
Allen went suited and booted on 24 July in a checked two-piece by Alessandra Rich. The grey checked cropped blazer teamed with a midi skirt, and waist belt, was power dressing to the max. Statement earrings and pewter platform Jimmy Choo heels took the look from work to play.
Allen went bright and bold on 21 July in a Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini strapless dress. The eye-catching hue was stunning, but it was the intricate scenery print that took this dress to a new level.
Allen jumped on the balletcore trend on 20 July wearing a pale pink look from top-to-toe. The Needle and Thread outfit comprised of a crystal-embellished cardigan with a ruffled maxi skirt.
On 18 July, Allen chose a pink diamonté bodysuit under sheer black trousers, but it was her frock coat that really stole the show. The Giorgio Armani design was straight from the Autumn/Winter catwalk and included a chic diamonté collar.
Adding some sparkle to the London streets, Allen championed independent label Nafsika Skourti for her look on 15 July. The silver sequin top of the dress moved into a voluminous black skirt with a contemporary cutout at the middle. Simply strappy heels were all that was needed to complete the look.
A super chic red hot look was the order of the day on 11 July. Keeping the dress in an off-the-shoulder style, the Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini design was bold and beautiful. With flattering ruching and a full semi-sheer skirt, Allen added an embellished box bag for a look that was red carpet-worthy.
If there was ever an outfit to go straight on our summer list, it’s this one. Allen chose a three-piece co-ord by Elie Saab as she left the Duke of York Theatre on 10 July. The white crochet bralet with matching high-waisted shorts and cute jacket would look just as cool in a beach club as they would for dinner plans.
