Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake was known for his use of pleated fabrics and unique hand-painted prints, and for producing more than 100 mock turtlenecks for Steve Jobs. He was a true fashion genius, and highly respected in the worlds of art, fashion and design.

Sadly, Miyake passed of liver cancer on August 5. But we’d love to take this as an opportunity to celebrate his incredible legacy, by taking a look back on some of his most iconic looks worn by celebrities over the years.

Below, are 10 times celebrities wore Miyake, and where you can shop some similar archival pieces for your own wardrobe.

Grace Jones wore Issey Miyake at a Grammy after party in 1983.

Grace Jones met Issey Miyake during her early days in Paris, as a struggling model. Miyake was inspired by Jones’s beauty and made her the lead girl in his radical 1976 runway show called: Issey Miyake and Twelve Black Girls which took place in Japan at the Seibu Theatre, Tokyo and Osaka Municipal Gymnasium. Thus, their friendship flourished and Jones continued to wear Miyake pieces throughout her career.

This specific Matrix-esc number is pretty spectacular.
