Heidi Klum’s daughter Leni Klum recently attended her high school prom. Instead of scouring dress sites and local boutiques for the perfect prom dress, the 18-year-old model – who’s also a Dior Beauty and GHD ambassador – turned to her own mother’s closet for the occasion. Leni chose a sleek, strapless black dress for prom, which she shared photos of on Instagram on Monday, writing, “prom night in mamas dress.”
The 48-year-old supermodel and “Making the Cut” host first wore the timeless number more than two decades ago for HBO charity special “Comic Relief VIII” back in 1998. At the time, she paired the simple black dress with a sparkly gold tie necklace and black open-toe pumps, wearing her light-brown hair straight. While the hemline hit Heidi at the knee, the dress appears to be maxi length on Leni. Leni also put her own spin on the look, accessorising with an Adina’s Jewels tennis necklace and a rhinestone mesh purse.
Leni isn’t the first celebrity offspring to make the meaningful (and sustainable) choice of pulling from her parent’s archives. In 2021, actor Lela Rechon passed along her “Waiting to Exhale” premiere dress to her daughter, Asia Rochon Fuqua, for her prom. That same year, Brooke Shields’s daughter Rowan Francis wore a strapless red gown to her prom – the exact dress Shields wore to the 1998 Golden Globes. Angelina Jolie’s children have also been known to borrow items from their mother’s closet: during Jolie’s “The Eternals” press tour last fall, her 15-year-old daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt wore a printed Dior dress that belonged to her mum, while 17-year-old Zahara Jolie-Pitt sported Jolie’s 2014 Oscars gown on the red carpet.
