Seven to Shop: Including a One-Piece Wonder and a Leather Belt You’ll Have For a Lifetime
Each month, POPSUGAR Australia’s Lifestyle Editor Sangeeta Kocharekar shares the fashion pieces she’s eyeing or buying. Note that POPSUGAR has affiliate and advertising partnerships so we might get revenue from your purchase.
The period from now until the end of the year is filled with fashion sales, and it can be easy to buy pieces you won’t end up wearing much and frankly, don’t need. I’m saying this because every year, when the sales roll around, that’s what happens to me. And the wardrobe I tried so hard to make ‘delicate’ with evenly spaced-out wooden hangars bursts at the seams. I’d wanted to create a boutique clothing shop experience in my closet, and instead, it just makes me stressed.
One way to combat buying what you don’t need is to clear out your closet right before the sales start. Use the Marie Kondo and ask yourself, “does this piece spark joy in me?”. If not, and if you don’t see it sparking joy even in a years’ time, sell or donate it. Then, once you’ve done a big clear out, you can hit the sales. You’ll be much more likely to second-guess your purchases.
If you have done a clear out and are now ready to shop, read on because ahead, I’m rounding up seven fashion purchases I’ve made this month (or kindly been gifted) I think are worth it.
Novo Tillie Sandals, $69.95
I like low-maintenance shoes, which is why I mostly wear slides or thongs. But these sandals are so easy to put on — they’re basically one step up from thongs. I like that these can elevate a casual look, like shorts and tee, making it look more like an ‘outfit’ than just something you threw on. Because they have a strap around the ankle, they can make your legs look shorter. It might be worth trying them on to see if they suit you before you buy.
Sunset Lover Forest Mini Dress, $595
At nearly $600, this dress is certainly an investment piece. If you can afford it, though, I highly recommend it. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so many compliments on a dress before, and it works for so many occasions. It comes to just above the knee so is modest enough to wear to the office. It also works as a cocktail party dress. Or simply to throw on before weekend brunch. The detailing on the fabric and collar lining is beautiful close-up.
Vacay Swimwear White Linen Pants, $84
I think I’ve found the perfect pair of white linen pants in these. I’ve been wearing them with tight or wrap tops to give myself some shape up top. I’ll be living in them this summer.
Witchery Linen Viscose Longline Waistcoat, $174.97
I got this longline waistcoat as a set with matching shorts, but found I’ve been wearing the top far more often on its own. I wear it bra-less for dinner, but you can add a tank top underneath and leave it unbuttoned for daytime.
Under Armour Meridian Shorts Bodysuit, $72
The beauty of this one-piece is that you can dress it up or down. I wear it as-is for Pilates, or I’ve been wearing it with a cardigan or wrap top for weekend life admin or on walks. There are plenty of bodysuits out there, but what I like about this one is the criss-cross straps at the back – it’s an interesting detail and makes it a bit more elevated.
R.M. Williams Allingham Belt, $139
I’ve been looking for a good quality leather belt and found it in this one. I wear only gold jewellery, so the brass buckle of the belt goes well with that.
Summi Summi Linen Pants Fadey Lady, $125.30
I love everything about these linen pants (yes, another pair — can you tell I love linen pants?). They’ve got pockets. They can be dressed down for everyday with thongs or slides or dressed up for work or a night out. And the lime green and light purple fade make it a statement piece.
