Seven to Shop: Including the Only Boots You Need This Winter and a $39 Pair of Pants

Each month, POPSUGAR Australia’s Lifestyle Editor Sangeeta Kocharekar shares the fashion pieces she’s eyeing or buying. Note that POPSUGAR has affiliate and advertising partnerships so we might get revenue from your purchase.

At age 16, I had two teeth removed from my crowded mouth and was fitted with a second set of braces. I felt embarrassed and awkward and ugly. I remember one day before school, telling my mum: “I’m going to at least dress nicely so I feel better about the way I look.”

Fast forward to now, at 35, and though my teeth gaps have long closed and my braces are off, I still relish the chance to put together an outfit. While I once loved bright colours, bold patterns, and wearing the latest trends, these days, I’m more focused on buying pieces that’ll last season after season and creating looks that won’t date.

So, now that you know a little context about me, let’s get into the inaugural edition of my shopping column, shall we? June in Australia means chillier weather but I’ve included one summer dress I love that’s now on sale. Couldn’t resist. Keep scrolling to shop my top picks.

Novo Shoes Dobie Boots, $99.95

I wear these with high socks pulled up so they peek out the top of the boots. I like that I can easily put them on with the elastic material in the back. Because they’re chunky, I’ve been wearing them with delicate materials, like linen and silk, for contrast.

Henne Margot Top, $159

I actually forgot this top was supposed to be worn off-the-shoulder until I pulled up the image of it from the site. I’ve been wearing it on top of my shoulders and with high-waisted pants. I like that though it’s classic enough that I can wear it for years, it’s still modern with its wrap-around front.

Summi Summi LS Oversized Shirt, Cowboi Print, $229

I always get compliments on this shirt. I usually wear it with the sleeves unbuttoned and rolled up, and with tighter trousers, to balance out the top’s bagginess. My favourite outfit combo with it is pairing it with tight pleather pants I got from Glassons.

Kathmandu Sun-Scape UPF Women’s Shirt Dress, now $32, was $40

Though I did get this dress in summer, and it’s definitely a warmer weather piece, I saw it was on sale, so thought it worth sharing. I didn’t think I’d wear it as much as I do, but it’s become an easy throw-on (again, in warm weather). My favourite look with it has been pairing it with loafers and socks.

Fayt Cisco Jeans Black Grey Wash, $99.95

These jeans are simple and go with anything, and they’re stretchy so easy to throw on. I’ve been wearing them with the Henne Margot top above as they’re high-wasted and the top cuts off at the midriff.

Lululemon Softstreme Perfectly Oversized Cropped Crew, $129

I’ve loved Lululemon for activewear ever since my friend worked there and was able to use her Friends and Family discount to get me a pair of leggings. The material was so soft, they tucked me in all the right places and felt like a second skin. I finally understood the value of paying more for activewear. This sweatshirt is lightweight and the cream colour I got makes it feel chic. I’ve been wearing it with leggings, but could even wear it to the office with nice trousers.

Cider Denim Button Wide Leg Pants, $51

A pair of white pants are essential for any capsule wardrobe (imo), and these are a great bet with their wide leg fit. When I buy fast fashion, I always make sure I’m getting neutral colours and timeless styles, so the pieces will last.
