OMFG, Christian Siriano Just Served Serious Gown Drama on the Runway
Kicking off New York Fashion Week with a lot of drama, Christian Siriano’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection was a showcase of heavy-metal glamour from silk, sequin, and rhinestone-adorned dresses to brocade, leather, and velvet separates and sculptural gowns that were full-on works of art. Coco Rocha, Siriano’s longtime muse, lit up the rocker-chic catwalk in the show’s second look, wearing a bedecked minidress with a dominatrix-style collar necklace revealing the collection’s elegant tone with a rebellious spirit, while Candice Huffine came out in a shimmering, body-skimming dress made for a disco. Loads of lurex, leather, and metallic fabrics followed, proving to be staples for the predominately evening assortment, while ample proportions à la the ’80s prevailed in the form of supersize sleeves and shawl collars, ballgown skirts (some with bustles!), and ultrasharp shoulders.
To offset much of the high-octane drama, several ’90s-style slips and suits made their mark, while ruched leather stilettos stood out in the accessory department, both in bright colors and neutral tones. The second half of the show is where the serious drama kicked in. Highly conceptual gowns with architectural shapes, severe lines, and dazzling embellishments took to the runway, all destined for a major red carpet moment. Ahead, your firsthand look at every glamorous look from the collection. We’ll be standing by for one of these to make an appearance at this Sunday’s Oscars.
