As cochair of the 2022 Met Gala, Blake Lively made sure to channel the “Gilded Glamour” theme with every detail of her wardrobe – beginning with her preparty look for dinner the night before at Anna Wintour’s. Though she wore Atelier Versace on the red carpet at the ball, Lively actually began channelling the Statue of Liberty in this Thom Browne dress, which she shared on Instagram Wednesday night following a string of events.
“A little hint of things to come? thanks to @thombrowne,” Lively wrote of the number, which is a single-sleeve metallic sequin gown from Browne’s spring 2017 runway with a half bodice that gives the illusion of a pinstripe suit. The asymmetrical neckline is a signature design flourish of Browne’s, as he’s known for taking iconic uniforms and radically deconstructing them.
Lively completed her Thom Browne look with a pre-fall 2022 vest featuring floral embroidery, rings from Brent Neale and Retrouvaí, pear-shaped diamond stud earrings from her go-to jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, and a pair of Browne’s curved-heel brogues.
The ensemble definitely foreshadowed her Met Gala reveal, referencing Lady Liberty in all the right ways, just as her Versace ballgown would do the very next day with its colour-changing train that symbolised the oxidisation of the statue. Lively also wore a manicure that referenced New York City architecture and a tiara comprised of seven spikes and 25 precious stones to mimic the monument’s crown. She completed her Met Gala moment at the afterparty in a red micro minidress from Versace, covered in beads and tassels and complete with Christian Louboutin heels.
