Summer is coming, we can feel it. And if there’s one thing we all deserve this summer, it’s a proper beach party complete with Piña Coladas and a new set of cute bathers, duh.
What we look for in bathers depends on a few things.
- We want them to be sustainable. Wearing bathers made from sustainable materials not only helps them last longer but also means we can enjoy the ocean with a clear conscience.
- We want them to be flattering. You’re at your most exposed in bathers, so you want to feel comfortable in your skin when you’re roaming about on the beach.
- We want them to be cute. Living in Australia means living in your bathers for like, six months of the year, so they need to be stylish.
Finding bathers that tick all these boxes can sometimes be a challenge. So, where do we find cute, flattering bathers that are also sustainable?
We’re here for you babes.
Our latest favourite is Australian Swimwear brand Baiia. It is pioneering sustainable luxury in the swimwear market with these amazing reversible bikinis that are sustainable and come in inclusive sizing; flattering for all body types.
Baiia’s most celebrated creations, the signature 3-piece Wrapsuit and newest 4-piece Bikini, is like nothing ever made before. You may have seen it on Instagram, but trust us, it’s just as good IRL.
While this world-first design is loved for a number of reasons— one of which is its ability to flatter so many different body shapes (available in sizes six to 26)—its real uniqueness lies in the designs longevity and its fundamental concept of versatility.
Ethically made from recycled fishing nets and plastic, the seamless Baiia Wrapsuit + Bikini is fully reversible, allowing it to be worn multiple ways on its own or by mix and matching with multiple swimsuits.
The philosophy of using minimal resources, reducing waste, and lessening our impact on the environment all come together to create versatile, functional and cute AF bathers and we are truly here for it.
Like so many incredible female entrepreneurs that are behind the Australian fashion industry’s shift to size diversity, Baiia’s founder, Amber Boyers, turned to design after a particularly un-empowering experience shopping for swimwear.
“I knew that the reason I felt so inadequate wasn’t because of my own body,” she says.
“Rather, it was the fault of the design.”
Boyers simply needed to find some bathers that suited her body shape and were made well, so she set out to make her own.
And thank god she did. Armed with a solid knowledge of fashion, business and design, as well as an ever-growing motivation to bring something new, inclusive and diverse to consumers, Boyers brought Baiia to life, with an aim to empower women and help them feel like their most powerful sexiest self.
Since its 2016 launch, Baiia has grown to be a hero label for women of all ages, stages, shapes and sizes, and has extended its collection into reversible bikinis, customisable dresses, wrap-around skirts and sarongs.
This is how every swimwear label should tackle its market given the vulnerable nature of swimwear.
A pair of good bathers can change your mood and the way you feel about yourself and when the sun is shining and we have a cocktail in hand, all we want is to feel empowered and sexy.
