Ashley Graham Can Barely Move in Her “Barbie” Premiere Dress: “This Is Awkward AF”
Ashley Graham deserves an honorary Barbie title for her impressive commitment to fashion. On July 9, Graham attended the world premiere of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie in Los Angeles while wearing a sheer polka-dot evening gown so tight, she could barely move on her way to the red carpet. The custom Nina Ricci dress, designed by Harris Reed and styled by Emily Evans, featured massive ruffle detailing along the bust that made her head and arms almost as stiff as the plastic doll’s.
“I’m on my way to the Barbie premiere and this is awkward AF because I can’t move.”
“Just getting ready – getting ready for the pink carpet ‘Barbie’ premiere,” Graham sang as she sat in the hair-and-makeup chair on her Instagram Stories. A few hours later, the model shared footage of herself riding to the premiere with her body at an awkward diagonal angle in the back seat. “I’m on my way to the Barbie premiere and this is awkward AF because I can’t move,” she said, one arm folded behind her head. Graham was also seemingly unable to turn her neck due to the giant ruffle underneath her chin. “I’m taped in. I’m sewed in. But I look amazing!” she said enthusiastically.
Once she hit the pink carpet, Graham seemed to regain her range of motion, smiling for the cameras and striking photo-worthy poses that would make Barbie proud. She even paused to snap a few pictures with the film’s stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Inside the premiere, she took her seat – thankfully, much more spacious than her ride – and enjoyed a snack before the show. “It’s Barbie everything, Barbie all the time,” Graham added later on her Instagram Stories before breaking into a brief rendition of “Barbie Girl” by Aqua.
Evans styled Graham’s outfit with Chopard jewelry, including a dramatic pair of drop earrings adorned with pink gemstones. Celebrity nail artist Ashlie Johnson, meanwhile, completed the look with a Barbie-pink french manicure.
