All of Sarah Jessica Parker’s Iconic Met Gala Looks From the Past Decade
We might be familiar with Sarah Jessica Parker mostly because she plays our beloved Carrie Bradshaw, but truth be told, they’re kinda one and the same.
Of course, there are many differences between the fictional character of Carrie and the real life woman who plays her, SJP, but one undeniable parallel is their love for fashion. Sarah Jessica Parker, much like Carrie Bradshaw, is something of a style icon. She has graced the cover of Vogue, her inner-circle have included famed stylists and designers, from Patricia Field to Alexander McQueen, and she has her own shoe brand, SJP, that boasts effortless class and New York-esque style.
She’s also — undoubtedly — worn her fair share of iconic outfits to the Met Gala. So, with the 2022 Met Gala literally around the corner (tomorrow!!), we thought we’d go back and revisit some of SJP’s best outfits from past Met Gala’s.
2019 “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”
SJP dazzled as the Queen of Hearts.
2016, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”
SJP in her Hamilton-inspired look. In a piece for T Magazine, Parker defended her highly-criticised look, saying “We didn’t want it to be about the electronic screen or something that could turn on and off. We wanted it to be about the technology of thought, of application, of fabrication. The technology of the hand and the machine.” She was inspired by the costumes of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s take on Hamilton, and how they would merge with technology. And to be honest, she looks great. So who are we to argue?
Again with Andy Cohen, in 2016
How have we never noticed that Andy Cohen and SJP are essentially Carrie and Stanny IRL!? This look is extreeeeemly Carrie Bradshaw, the three-quarter pant, with blue stilettos — that look a lot like Carrie’s blue Manolos — and a tulled sleeve to add the extra va-va-voom. And Andy? Her right hand man.
2015, dragoness
SJP attends the 2015 Met Gala, “China: Through the Looking Glass” in this epic Philip Treacy headpiece, paying homage to the Chinese dragon, in all it’s glory. She looks smouldering.
Another thing SJP and Carrie Bradshaw have in common: they love a hat or headpiece.
2014, in Oscar de la Renta
2014 celebrated Charles James, esteemed gown-maker, known for his highly-structured ball gown designs. SJP wore Oscar de la Renta’s take on a structured ball gown, but we have to say that the feature is her up-do. It’s something else. Only SJP could pull that off. You can see her full gown here, including the back, that has a special message.
2013, wearing a mohawk
This mohawk headpiece is EVERYTHING. SJP really brought it to the Met in 2013, “Punk: Chaos to Couture” with another impactful headpiece by Philip Treacy and gown by Giles Deacon that provoked both beauty and chaos. One of our fave SJP at the Met Gala looks, TBH.
2012, in Valentino
This Valentino is gorgeous, and very encompassing with that year’s theme, “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations”, which centred around pushing the boundaries of expressing femininity. SJP went with a classic feminine silhouette, something she doesn’t often do. Perhaps this is her pushing her own boundaries of femininity.
