Priyanka Chopra is opening up about raising baby Malti, over a year after her birth. Ahead of the release of Chopra’s upcoming TV series, “Citadel,” the former Bollywood actor graced the cover of Elle’s May digital issue, speaking about parenting her 15-month-old daughter with husband Nick Jonas in the corresponding interview.
“We both have careers that are important to us, so we split our time in a way where one of us is able to do the house things or be with the baby.”
She got candid about juggling their careers while being present for Malti, sharing that the couple has naturally split up domestic responsibilities. “We just feel a sense of contribution when it comes to the not-fun stuff,” she told the magazine. “I don’t remember having a conversation where I’m like, ‘I need you to do more of this.’ We both have careers that are important to us, so we split our time in a way where one of us is able to do the house things or be with the baby.”
The new parents have been bringing their daughter along for the ride across film sets and music tours. Similar to the way she was raised, Chopra said she wanted Malti to always be with family and “go anywhere with us,” as opposed to being home with a nanny. “It was very important to us to be able to expose her to just life and its beautiful gifts,” she said.
Chopra also reflected on the challenging journey bringing their daughter home. The couple previously revealed that Malti spent over 100 days in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) after welcoming her via surrogate in January 2022. “I don’t even know how I’ll ever discipline her because I just don’t have it in me,” she admitted. “I was so close to losing her so many times that she can get away with anything and I just want to see her happy. I want her to be the happiest. She’s a super smiley, happy baby, and that’s all my goal is – to see her joyous.”
Over the past few months, Chopra and Jonas have documented glimpses of Malti’s joyousness and their sweet family of three, including their first Easter together and Malti’s first trip to India.
