Why Some of Your Fave Celebs Didn’t Attend the Met Gala This Year
The Met Gala has officially kicked off, but while the carpet featured plenty of big names, some celebs were noticeably absent.
This year, the theme for the exhibit was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and while we’re not totally clear on what that means exactly, a lot of celebs truly served up some incredible looks.
But with so many Met Gala veterans missing this year, we couldn’t help but feel slightly glum.
Let’s take a look at all the celebs who didn’t attend the Met Gala this year.
Zendaya
Yes, we know Zendaya announced a few days ago that she won’t be attending the Met Gala this year, but we still haven’t been able to fully process this information. Zendaya is the queen of the pink carpet and always manages to outshine everyone with her over-the-top looks.
But her reasoning is pretty valid, saying she won’t be able to make it because she’s filming for season 2 of Euphoria.
“I will be on Euphoria,” she said. “My fans are very upset with me. I will unfortunately not be able to attend because I’ll be working for Euphoria. I wish I could, especially since this fashion icon [Timothée] is going to be hosting.”
Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa has had a huge year after the release of her smash hit album Future Nostalgia. And while we couldn’t be more thrilled, it also means she just simply doesn’t have the time to attend the Met Gala.
The vocalist is currently filming her acting debut alongside Henry Cavill for the spy thriller Argylle.
Charli D'Amelio
Charli D’Amelio has never attended the Met before, but fans were certain she would be showing up this year. While some were excited after hearing the news, others criticised the decision, questioning whether she deserved an invite to the exclusive event.
But Charli set the record straight, saying she can’t attend because she’s just under the age limit at 17. “The funny thing about [the rumours] is I’m actually not old enough to go to the Met Gala but I have gotten so much hate about that and I’m like, guys, I can’t even go,” she said.
Kylie Jenner
Love her or hate her, you have to admit Kylie Jenner is one of the most photographed and talked about people in the world. Which is why her absence from The Met Gala came as a bit of a shock.
“I’m so sad i couldn’t make it this year. i can’t wait to see all the looks,” she wrote on Instagram.
To be fair, she is pregnant so we can’t blame her for wanting to stay at home.
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj took to Twitter to reveal the reasoning behind why she won’t be attending the Met.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met,” she wrote. If I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”
Halsey
Halsey, who just recently gave birth, also chose to skip The Met this year, saying on Twitter: “I’m still breastfeeding <3 I only had my baby 7 weeks ago. There’s nothing more ‘American fashion’ than moms having to go back to work after just giving birth lol.”
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
And possibly the one that hit us the hardest was power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds choosing to opt-out of The Met Gala this year. Blake is known for her stunning, intricate looks but despite reflecting on past Met Gala outfits on her Instagram earlier in the week, the pair decided to spend their evening at home instead.
