All the Celebs Who Have Won Immunity on Celebrity MasterChef Australia

Celebrity MasterChef premiered with a bang, and big names such as Ian Thorpe and Rebecca Gibney raced against the clock in the hopes to win the coveted immunity pin.

The little gold pin — the only one this entire season — can be used by the contestant at any point during a competition when they find themselves in elimination. It’s proven to be incredibly valuable in the past, and there’s no doubt it’ll be useful now. Joining Gibney and Thorpe on the show is Dami Im, Chrissie Swan, Archie Thompson, Nick Riewoldt, Matthew Le Neves, Collette Dinnigan and Gordon Ramsay’s daughter Tilly Ramsay. 

Judges Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen have returned to decide exactly which dish deserves the prize. 

The first challenge the celebrities were faced with was to cook a dish that they’re famous for, and as minds raced, it was one amateur cook that made it out on top. Comedian Dilruk Jayasinha joked his way around the kitchen, even asking at one point how he’s supposed to boil water.

But in the end, it was the delicious flavour combination he cooked up that won the judges over.

“The challenge is about cooking a dish that you’re famous for,” he said. “I only started learning how to cook last year when the pandemic kicked off, so … really, all I can think about is a Sri Lankan dish called kiribath, which is a coconut milk rice, and it’s a traditional dish.

“That’ll do there.

“I have also decided to make a onion sambal, called lunu miris. Also, I need to make something else.

“So you’d think go with a Sri Lankan curry. Unfortunately, I don’t know any Sri Lankan curries. I only know a beef rendang curry from Indonesia or Malaysia.

“And so I’m gonna go for it.”

And go for it he did, because Jayasinha was announced the winner of the immunity pin. Shocked beyond belief, he asked: “Did anyone see that coming?”

“I feel like I’m Gollum, from Lord of the Rings. It’s my precious! I feel myself deteriorating into insanity every time I hold it.

“The power is infinite.”

But despite nabbing the only immunity pin of the season, contestants are still given the chance to save themselves from the next elimination, if they manage to impress the judges.
