Ryan Murphy Didn't Start Dating His Future Husband Until 15 Years After He Met Him
Ryan Murphy, known for his creations American Horror Story, Glee, and Netflix’s Hollywood, to name a few, has known his husband, David Miller, for more than two decades, but it took years for them to take their friendship to the next level. Ryan met David back in the 1990s at Muse, a gay hangout in LA, where David was awed by Ryan, according to The New Yorker. They went 15 years before deciding to actually date, because, as Ryan told The New Yorker in 2018, “We were at an age where we were both serious about wanting a relationship, wanting children.”
They got exactly that when they married in 2012 and welcomed their first child six months after their wedding and their second child in 2015. David, who is a photographer, matches Ryan’s creativity with his own creative side, which he’s been able to show off in the couple’s multiple homes. The couple have homes on both coasts, including one in Provincetown, MA, near where they got married. Both Ryan and David worked with designers and artists to create their homes and turn them into welcoming works of art.
Though David is a creative like Ryan, he tends to favor the sidelines, allowing his husband to be in the spotlight. Ryan’s New Yorker profile describes David as a fan of sports, who is athletic and isn’t wowed by celebrities. Instead, he keeps a relatively low profile, focusing on his family. One of the only times the two have been outspoken about their private lives was when their younger son was diagnosed with and beat cancer. Otherwise, we’re been treated to seeing these two together when they occasionally take a red carpet. Scroll through the gallery ahead to see some of their best red carpet moments from over the years.
