Robert Pattinson Prefers to Keep His Love Affairs Private

Pattinson and Stewart’s onscreen romance became a real-life relationship in 2009 while they were still working on the Twilight films. Fans of the franchise were obviously very invested in the two being together in real life, but the former couple kept their relationship private until photos of Stewart kissing her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director, Rupert Sanders, leaked while they were still dating. According to People, Pattinson and Stewart tried to reconcile shortly after, but they called it quits on their relationship in 2013.

Even years after their breakup, their relationship still tends to come up occasionally in the press. Last year, Stewart opened up about her romance with Pattinson, telling the New Yorker that they were “young and stupid” back then.

FKA Twigs and Pattinson first sparked dating rumours in August 2014 when they were spotted hanging out with friends in NYC. A month later, E! News confirmed that the two were “officially an item” after they were photographed holding hands in Venice Beach, CA. Their private relationship moved fairly quickly after that, and after fewer than eight months of dating, reports confirmed that the two got engaged in 2015. But two years later, the couple chose to split up, though the exact timing of their breakup is unknown.

People confirmed that Pattinson and Waterhouse first started dating in 2018 after they were spotted showing some PDA in London. They, too, have only shared a few glimpses of their relationship over the years, occasionally making public appearances for date nights and birthdays.

Pattinson reluctantly spoke on their relationship for the first time in 2019 during an interview with The Sunday Times. “If you let people in, it devalues what love is,” he explained. “If a stranger on the street asked you about your relationship, you’d think it extremely rude. If you put up a wall it ends better.”

However, it seems he’s gotten better about teasing their romance amid “The Batman” press tour. During his appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last month, the actor mentioned that he and Waterhouse watched “The Batman” for the first time together and said her reaction to the film “kind of changed the entire thing.” “I’m pretty sure she’s not normally into watching superhero movies,” he added. “Just seeing that it was capturing her attention the entire time, and then she held my hand and touched it [to her face] and I could feel a little tear. And I was like, ‘No way!'”
