And Just Like That… the ladies of Sex and the City are back! It’s been a New York minute (well, 11 years to be exact) since we last saw our favourite gal pals Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), and the leading men in their lives on our screens.
The highly-anticipated Sex and the City revival premieres Dec. 9 on HBO Max, but before we check in on what the next chapter has in store for these Manhattan style icons, it’s best to look back on how they ended up when we last saw them. Since we still don’t know if time has been kind to the status of Carrie’s relationship with her husband Big (Chris Noth), we can’t help but wonder if Carrie will be single again. Did her steamy smooch with ex Aidan (John Corbett) land her in hot water? What happened once the gang got back to New York after their trip to Dubai? And most importantly, do you even know what we’re talking about?!
Since we do know that Corbett will make an appearance as Aiden in And Just Like That…, let’s revisit the 2010 film Sex and the City 2 to refresh on what leads to whatever’s about to go down in the new series. Ggrab a Cosmo and keep reading for a quick brush-up on where we left off.

What Happens to Carrie in Sex and the City 2?
After years of trying to meet the perfect man throughout the Sex and the City series, Carrie realises that the one big love she needed was from none other than Mr. Big himself. She finally walks down the aisle to Big in Sex and the City The Movie, but married life isn’t all that it’s chalked up to be in Sex and the City 2. Carrie finds herself still wanting to go out while Big is more comfortable being at home. Cue up a girls’ trip to Abu Dhabi, where Carrie crosses paths with ex-fiancé Aidan… and kisses him after a sultry dinner. Carrie eventually confesses to Big, who, in turn, gifts her a proper engagement ring with a black diamond as a reminder that their love is unique, unbreakable, and of course, unwavering.

What Happens to Miranda in Sex and the City 2?
Miranda continues to settle into the Brooklyn suburbs as she balances work, parenting, and her marriage to Steve after tying the knot in the Sex and the City series. By Sex and the City 2, the high-powered attorney ditches her job due to her misogynistic boss and jets off to Abu Dhabi with her best friends for a change of pace. Miranda also consults Carrie about whether to tell Big about kissing Aidan (as we all remember, she has experience with infidelity thanks to Steve’s affair in the first Sex and the City movie). By the end of Sex and the City 2, Miranda is back in Brooklyn and joins a new and diverse law firm where she is finally appreciated.

What Happens to Charlotte in Sex and the City 2?
As a new mom of two at the start of Sex and the City 2, Charlotte worries that her husband, Harry, is attracted to their Irish nanny. It turns out that all of Charlotte’s insecurities were unfounded, as the nanny is actually a lesbian. After one divorce, difficulty conceiving, and an adoption process across the whole Sex and the City series, it seems like Charlotte has found the perfect life with her loving husband and two daughters by the end of Sex and the City 2.

What Happens to Samantha in Sex and the City 2?
What doesn’t happen to Samantha? The public relations maven lands a five-star vacation to Abu Dhabi for all of her friends in Sex and the City 2, but soon butts heads with Middle Eastern culture. No flirting? That’s a big problem. Samantha’s anti-aging hormone drugs are confiscated, and she’s later arrested for getting it on in public with a handsome Danish architect. Sure, Samantha’s all-expenses-paid vacation was cut short, but she still ends up on top (or on bottom?) during a domestic Hamptons getaway with her new fling by the end of the second film. Maybe single Samantha is the best Samantha? Sorry, Smith James from Sex and the City The Movie!

What Happens to Mr. Big in Sex and the City 2?
Mr. Big might not be totally in the mix in Sex and the City 2 since he remains stateside, but his presence very much affects Carrie. The newlyweds grapple with combining their lifestyles since tying the knot in Sex and the City The Movie: Big is a homebody, while Carrie is still tapped into the New York social scene. Big learns about Carrie’s kiss with her ex Aidan, and while he seems upset at first, Big tells Carrie that he realises she needs something to remind her that she’s married: a big ol’ diamond ring. They live happily ever after… for now.

What Happens to Aidan in Sex and the City 2?
We can’t forget about Aidan! The furniture maker-turned-interior design extraordinaire runs into Carrie while purchasing a rug at a souk. Carrie, of course, is buying shoes. It turns out some things never change, including the spark between Carrie and Aidan – even after calling it quits (twice!) throughout the series. Over dinner in Sex and the City 2, Aidan tells Carrie that he is still married to his wife Cathy and has three sons. However, that didn’t stop him from giving in to the “best mirage” he’s ever seen and passionately kissing Carrie. Will his marriage survive this indiscretion?

What Happens to Stanford in Sex and the City 2?
Stanford has the biggest moment of Sex and the City 2: He gets hitched! Stanford says “I do” to longtime love Anthony in an over-the-top wedding officiated by Liza Minelli. Of course, Carrie also serves as Stanford’s “best man,” and Stanford gives his well-deserved happy ending.
