Ruby Rose Almost Split Up The Veronicas After Jess Didn’t Talk to Lisa for a Year
After speaking out about their lack of airtime on Celebrity Appearance, The Veronicas have now appeared in a candid interview on Channel 9’s 60 Minutes.
During the segment, the twins — Lisa and Jessica Origliasso —revealed that they did not speak to each other during the time that Jess was in a relationship with former girlfriend and actor Ruby Rose.
“When you have a twin, you’ve got back up for everything,” she admitted. “But sometimes to evolve as an individual, and to find the love for myself I needed to find, I needed to just go through the experience for myself.”
For Lisa, not speaking to her sister was “heartbreaking”.
“I don’t know if there are any words for how hard that was,” she said. “It’s heartbreaking. She’s my best friend, so not being able to reach out and check-in, see how she’s doing, or tell her what’s going on with me [was hard].”
The twins had also previously discussed the trying time on their MTV reality show, The Veronicas: Blood Is For Life.
“Lisa and I didn’t talk for a year. I was in a relationship that wasn’t good for me. I became isolated. I had nobody anymore, I only had my relationship,” Jess said. “I didn’t have my mum or my dad. When it became too much for me… I walked away. I realised I’d become the enemy in the situation. And I was ultimately… my presence and my love was making it harder for [Jess].”
The pop duo did not perform together during their year separation, which almost spelled the end for the band.
“We weren’t able to create, we weren’t able to perform. I mean, we couldn’t be together. We had to have things on hold,” Lisa said, before adding that the “magic of music is truly a spiritual experience” and brought them back together.
“Because that is our language we have together when words are too tough,” she said.
Following their period away from each other, the two sisters then worked on two studio albums — Human and Godzilla — the first in seven years.
Rose and Jess first dated in 2008, before coming back together in 2016. They split in April 2018.
