With parents like Beyoncé and JAY-Z, it’s no surprise Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir Carter are already style stars in the making. Tina Knowles-Lawson recently chatted with Oprah Daily about Ivy Park’s latest collection, Ivytopia, and shared how her grandchildren contribute to the brand.
“They are little fashionistas, and they have definite determination about what they like and what they don’t like.”
“They are little fashionistas, and they have definite determination about what they like and what they don’t like,” the businesswoman and fashion designer said in the July 21 interview. “When Beyoncé’s doing the first samples, they get them, and some things they love, and some things you can tell are not their favourite. Kids like things that are comfortable. They don’t want anything that’s scratchy or too tight or high around the neck.”
Considering 10-year-old Blue and 5-year-olds Rumi and Sir have starred in multiple Ivy Park campaigns alongside their mom, it only makes sense they’d provide their input for every collection. Though Blue’s effortlessly cool style has made headlines in the past, as she hung out courtside in a sleek black outfit or performed with Beyoncé at the Oscars, Rumi seems to be just as excited about fashion. “She has an amazing sense of style,” Knowles-Lawson said, adding that Rumi reminds her “so much” of a young Solange Knowles.
During a recent trip to Disneyland, Knowles-Lawson recalled Rumi picking Mickey Mouse shorts and a matching sparkly printed top for her outfit. “It actually looked really cute. But her sister came in and Blue was like, ‘My mom would be mad because she’s doing too much.’ And Rumi said, ‘This is my style.’ . . . I was impressed. She also said, ‘Mickey Mouse is going to be so excited. He’s going to come up and take a picture with me.’ She’s so funny. And do you know, Mickey came up and took a picture with her.”
